Art
At Aycliffe Community Primary School, we want pupils to develop their creativity, confidence and ability to express ideas through art and design. Pupils explore a range of materials, techniques and processes while developing their knowledge of artists, craftspeople and designers from different times, cultures and traditions.
We follow the Kapow Primary Art & Design curriculum, using its mixed-age pathway to ensure that learning is carefully sequenced across our two-year curriculum cycles. Pupils progressively develop their skills and knowledge across drawing, painting and mixed media, sculpture and 3D work, craft and design.
Learning builds upon what pupils already know, with opportunities to explore, experiment, evaluate and develop their own ideas. Teachers adapt teaching appropriately to meet pupils' individual needs while maintaining ambitious expectations for all.
Assessment
Teachers use pupils' work, sketchbooks, discussion and questioning alongside Kapow's assessment opportunities to identify what pupils know, understand and can do and to inform future teaching.
