Religious Education

At Aycliffe Community Primary School, we want pupils to develop their knowledge and understanding of a range of religions and worldviews and to recognise the importance of beliefs and values in people's lives. Through RE, pupils are encouraged to ask thoughtful questions, consider different perspectives and reflect on their own ideas and those of others.

We follow the Kapow Primary Religious Education curriculum, using its mixed-age pathway to ensure that learning is carefully sequenced across our two-year curriculum cycles. Pupils progressively develop their knowledge of religious and non-religious worldviews, exploring beliefs, practices, traditions and how these influence the ways in which people live.

Our RE curriculum complements our Rights Respecting ethos and our school values of being Ambitious, Respectful, Nurturing and Responsible. Pupils learn to discuss different beliefs and viewpoints with curiosity and respect, helping them to develop an understanding of the diverse world in which they live.

Teachers adapt teaching appropriately to meet pupils' individual needs while maintaining ambitious expectations for all.

Assessment
Teachers use pupils' work, discussion and questioning alongside Kapow's assessment opportunities to identify what pupils know and understand and to inform future teaching.
