Music

At Aycliffe Community Primary School, we want pupils to develop a love of music and the confidence to participate in musical activities. Through Music, pupils develop their skills as performers, listeners and composers while experiencing music from a range of traditions, cultures, styles and periods.

We follow the Sing Up Music curriculum, which provides a progressive sequence of musical learning across the school. Pupils develop their understanding and skills through singing, playing, improvising, composing and listening, with opportunities to revisit and build upon previous musical learning.

Music provides opportunities for pupils to express themselves creatively, perform individually and collaboratively, and develop confidence through making music with others. Teachers adapt teaching appropriately to meet pupils' individual needs while maintaining ambitious expectations for all.

Assessment
Teachers use observation, pupils' performances and compositions, discussion and other evidence from lessons to identify what pupils know, understand and can do and to inform future teaching.
