At Aycliffe Community Primary School, we want pupils to become creative and resourceful designers who can use their knowledge and skills to solve meaningful problems. Through Design & Technology, pupils learn to consider the needs of a user, develop and communicate ideas, make purposeful products and evaluate their effectiveness.

We follow the Kapow Primary Design & Technology curriculum, using its mixed-age pathway to ensure that learning is carefully sequenced across our two-year curriculum cycles. Pupils progressively develop their knowledge and skills through designing, making and evaluating, alongside developing their technical knowledge and understanding of food and nutrition.

Learning builds upon what pupils already know, with opportunities to investigate existing products, make informed design decisions, develop practical skills and evaluate and improve their own work. Teachers adapt teaching appropriately to meet pupils' individual needs while maintaining ambitious expectations for all.

Assessment
Teachers use pupils' work, finished products, discussion and questioning alongside Kapow's assessment opportunities to identify what pupils know, understand and can do and to inform future teaching.
