At Aycliffe Community Primary School, we want pupils to develop an understanding of the world around them and their place within it. Through Geography, pupils build their knowledge of places, people, environments and processes, while developing the geographical skills needed to investigate and make sense of the world.

We follow the Kapow Primary Geography curriculum, using its mixed-age pathway to ensure that learning is carefully sequenced across our two-year curriculum cycles. Pupils develop their locational and place knowledge, understanding of human and physical geography, and their ability to use geographical skills and fieldwork.

Learning builds upon what pupils already know, with opportunities to revisit knowledge and make connections between places, processes and environments. Teachers adapt teaching appropriately to meet pupils' individual needs while maintaining ambitious expectations for all.

Assessment
Teachers use pupils' work, discussion and questioning alongside Kapow's end-of-unit assessment opportunities to identify what pupils know and understand and to inform future teaching.
