At Aycliffe Community Primary School, we want pupils to develop the knowledge, skills and understanding they need to lead confident, healthy and responsible lives. Through PSHE and Relationships and Sex Education (RSE), pupils learn about themselves, their relationships with others and their place within the wider world.

We follow the Kapow Primary PSHE and RSE curriculum, using its mixed-age pathway to ensure that learning is carefully sequenced across our two-year curriculum cycles. Pupils progressively develop their understanding of families and relationships, health and wellbeing, safety, citizenship and economic wellbeing, alongside the statutory requirements for Relationships and Health Education.

Our PSHE and RSE curriculum complements our wider commitment to pupils' personal development, our Rights Respecting ethos and our school values of being Ambitious, Respectful, Nurturing and Responsible. Pupils are encouraged to express their views, listen respectfully to others, make informed choices and understand their rights and responsibilities.

Teachers create a safe and supportive environment for discussion and adapt teaching appropriately to meet pupils' individual needs while maintaining ambitious expectations for all.

Assessment
Teachers use discussion, questioning, pupils' work and Kapow's assessment opportunities to identify what pupils know and understand and to inform future teaching.
